Why is there a character limit on SMS/Text messages?

The character limit for a single SMS/Text message is 150 character in notifyanywhere.com and on our mobile app.

The SMS/Text messages globally and by all US major carriers limit it to 160 characters. When you send a SMS message over 160 characters the message is split into multiple Texts/SMS. Large messages are segmented into 153 character segments and sent individually then rebuilt by the recipients device.

Since we cannot control the order of the split Text/SMS messages, it is very much possible that your latter message (after split ) is received first by the recipient and so to avoid confusion we limit the character limit to 150 characters.

Are there limitations on sending SMS messages to Indian mobile devices?

All Calls and SMS to India have been put on hold until further notice.

SMS messages entering into India are categorized as Transactional or Promotional. By default, all SMS messages sent from Notify Anywhere are categorized as Promotional and are subject to the following limitations:

1. They cannot be sent to any phone number in Indias Do Not Call Registry

If you have been having trouble sending SMS messages to an Indian number, see if that number is registered on the National Do Not Call Registry.

If the owner of the phone number wishes to start receiving SMS messages from Notify Anywhere, they can update the DNC settings by following the instructions on this website.

2. They are only delivered between the hours of 9 A.M. and 9 P.M. local Indian time

If you have been seeing delivery delays when sending to Indian numbers, make sure you are making the requests during the operational hours of 9 A.M. to 9 P.M., as overnight messages are likely to be cached until the next day.

3. No more than one message every 20 minutes to the same destination number with the same message body

This is to to avoid potential SMS flooding. If you have a need to send identical messages more frequently than this rate, please send us an email at support@notifyanywhere.com to see if you can buy additional sender numbers from us.

Please note that the above limitations are regulations set up by Indian government. If the above still does not explain the issue you are running into when sending SMS to India, please send us an email at support@notifyanywhere.com, we would love to help.

Can I change the sender ID for sending SMS messages?

Yes, you can.

However, it is a paid service.

If you would like to change the sender ID to your caller ID or any other number, please contact us at support@notifyanywhere.com

How quickly can I send SMS messages?
We send SMS messages at a rate of one message segment per second. You can make requests as fast as you like, and we will queue the messages, releasing them at a rate of one message per the number of message segments in seconds.

This means if your SMS message is under 160 characters and does not include any non-GSM characters, it has 1 message segment, and will be released at the rate of one message per second. If your SMS message has 3 segments, a single message will be released every 3 seconds.

It is currently not possible to adjust this rate, but if you will be sending more messages, you can purchase additional numbers. Also please note that while we releases messages to our carrier partner at this rate, your messages may be subject to mobile carrier filtering and can get blocked.

Depending on what your use case is, a short code may be a better option for you. Short code messages can be released at the rate of 30 messages per second. Contact us at support@notifyanywhere.com to determine what is best for you.

Can my messages be filtered by Carrier?

Yes, Carriers may filter your messages or may block your number.
When subscribers receive messages they find objectionable, they may file complaints or report the carrier to governing bodies, seek damages, or simply stop being a customer. All of these things reduce the revenue of or increase costs for carriers. Thus, it is in the best interest of carriers to protect their subscribers from what they consider to be objectionable content.
How do I know if my messages are being filtered?
Notify AnyWhere does not always know or predict when a message has been filtered by a carrier. Some carriers falsely report filtered messages as delivered. Please note once the message is sent to the carrier for delivery from our system, we hold no responsibility of it getting filtered out by carrier(s). You will still be charged for the messages that have been filtered by carriers.
How do I prevent my messages from being filtered?
Avoid sending confusing messages. How the message is written is important: overly long messages, capitalized messages, mysterious links, and using aggressive language etc. can raise the level of suspicion users feel about a message. Suspicious users mostly report messages to their carrier, and when messages are reported it becomes very likely that future messages from that number or with similar content will be filtered.

Do users have clear opt out instructions?

If users do not understand how to opt out, they are more likely to report to carrier. Always include opt out instructions in your messages.
